AI transcription that understands conversations

Turn audio & video into professional documents with AI

Clea is an AI transcription tool that turns audio and video recordings into speaker-separated, timestamped transcripts — then into summaries, action items and finished PDF or Word documents. Upload a file from any device and it does the rest in minutes.

What you can upload

Whatever you recorded, on whatever you recorded it

Clea reads the audio track, so the container barely matters: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC for audio, MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV for video. A voice memo from a phone, a meeting export, a field recording, a lecture capture — all of it arrives the same way, and there is nothing to convert first.

Audio files

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and other common audio formats.

Video files

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and more — Clea reads the audio track.

Phone recordings

Voice memos from iOS and Android upload straight from your device.

Meeting exports

Recordings downloaded from Zoom, Teams, Meet and similar tools.

Clea works with files, not links. It does not download from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X or Facebook — doing so generally conflicts with those platforms' terms of service. If you have the rights to a video, save it to your device and upload it; the transcription is identical.

How it works

Three steps, start to document

There is no setup and no template to choose before you begin. You upload a recording, Clea transcribes it and separates the speakers, and you get a document you can read, edit and export. The processing runs on our servers rather than in your browser, so you can close the tab while it works — a one-hour recording is usually finished in a few minutes.

01

Upload or paste

Drop an audio or video file from your computer or phone. Up to 2 GB.

02

Let AI process it

Clea extracts the audio, detects speech, separates speakers and writes the transcript.

03

Export & understand

Edit the transcript, generate insights, then export a polished PDF or Word document.

Before and after

A recording is data. A document is useful.

The same file, once Clea has read it, separated the speakers and written it up.

Thanks for making the time. I wanted to start with something you said last quarter — that onboarding was the single biggest drag on retention. Is that still where you'd put it?

Daniel Osei00:24

It is, and honestly it got sharper. We looked at the cohort data in March and about sixty percent of the churn happens in the first two weeks. People sign up, they hit a wall somewhere in setup, and they just quietly stop coming back.

Sarah Whitfield00:41

Do you know where the wall is? Or is it different for everyone?

Daniel Osei00:48

It's more concentrated than I expected. Two thirds of it is the data import step. If a customer gets their data in, they stay. If they don't, nothing else we do matters. So we've stopped trying to improve the whole funnel and we're rebuilding that one screen.

Summary

A product interview covering retention and pricing. Daniel identifies onboarding — specifically the data import step — as the dominant cause of churn, with roughly 60% of churn occurring in the first two weeks and two thirds of that traced to a single screen. The team has committed six weeks to rebuilding it against one metric. The conversation then turns to the January move to usage-based pricing, which raised revenue per account by ~18% but doubled support volume until spend caps and bill forecasting shipped.

Features

Everything between a recording and a finished document

Transcription is the first step, not the product. Clea splits the conversation into labelled speaker turns, timestamps every line so clicking a sentence jumps the audio to it, then reads the whole transcript to write a summary, pull out action items and decisions, and mark chapter boundaries. All of it stays editable: rename a speaker once and the change follows through every line and every export.

AI transcription

Accurate speech-to-text across long recordings, with punctuation and formatting applied automatically.

Speaker identification

Clea detects who is speaking and splits the conversation into labelled turns you can rename.

Timestamped transcripts

Every line is anchored to the audio. Click any timestamp to jump straight to that moment.

AI summaries

Turn an hour of conversation into a summary, key points, decisions and action items.

Smart chapters

Long recordings are divided into chapters with their own titles, so you can navigate by topic.

Multi-language

Transcribe in dozens of languages with automatic detection, then translate the result.

Multiple export formats

PDF, Word, TXT, SRT, VTT, CSV, Markdown and JSON, each with its own layout options.

AI document generation

Transform a raw recording into a formatted report, meeting minutes or interview write-up.

Use cases

Built for people whose work runs on conversations

The same recording means different things to different people. A researcher needs verbatim accuracy and reliable speaker attribution; a journalist needs a quotable line and the timestamp that proves it; a team needs the three decisions buried in fifty minutes of discussion. Clea produces all of it from one upload, so nobody has to sit through the recording a second time.

Business meetings

Turn meetings into searchable transcripts, decisions and action items.

Interviews

Interviewer and guest are separated automatically, ready to quote.

Podcasts

Generate full episode transcripts, show notes and chapter markers.

Journalism

Convert recorded interviews into searchable documents in minutes.

Research

Process qualitative interviews and focus groups into analysable text.

Education

Turn lectures into structured study material with summaries and key points.

Content creators

Repurpose videos and podcasts into articles, newsletters and captions.

Recording laws differ by country and by state, and some conversations require every participant's consent. You are responsible for obtaining that consent and for complying with the rules that apply to you.

Privacy & security

Your conversations stay yours

People upload interviews, medical consultations and board meetings. That deserves a straight answer about what happens to them.

Encrypted in transit and at rest

Uploads travel over TLS and are stored encrypted by our storage provider. Media is only ever read through short-lived signed URLs.

Your projects are yours alone

Access is enforced at the database level with row-level security, not only in the application, so a bug in the UI cannot expose another account's transcript.

Deletion actually deletes

Removing a project removes its media, transcript, insights and generated documents. You can also have source media deleted automatically once transcription finishes.

Clear about processing

Transcription and AI analysis run through named third-party providers. Our data processing page lists who they are and what they receive.

What people say

Words from the workflow

Turned a ninety-minute research interview into a structured, quotable document before I had finished my coffee.

The speaker separation is the part that actually saves me time. Four people on a call and every line is attributed correctly.
TRTom ReinhardtHead of Product, Vantage Labs
I export the same episode as an SRT for the video and a Word document for the show notes. One upload, both jobs done.

FAQ

Questions people ask first

Short answers to what people ask before their first upload: which file formats work, how speaker detection behaves, which languages are supported, what you can export, and what happens to a recording once it has been processed. If something here is missing, the help centre goes further.

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and most other common formats. If your file plays in a browser or a media player, Clea can almost certainly read it.

Yes, as long as you upload the file. Clea does not download from those platforms — doing so generally conflicts with their terms of service — but if you have the rights to a video, save it to your device and upload it. The transcription is identical.

No. Upload whatever you have — MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, WebM and most other formats work as they are. For video, Clea reads the audio track and ignores the picture.

Yes. Speaker diarization runs on every transcription, splitting the conversation into labelled turns. Clea does not know anyone's real name, so speakers start as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on.

Yes, and renaming propagates everywhere at once — the transcript, the summary, the AI insights and every export.

Both, plus TXT, SRT, VTT, CSV, Markdown and JSON. PDF and Word exports use one of seven document templates and let you choose whether to include timestamps, speaker names, the summary, chapters and page numbers.
